Board of Fish to hear proposals to start commercial fishery for magister squid in SE AK

The proposal to officially open a new squid fishery didn’t pass but the board of fish was blown away by the potential of this new fishery. My mission to elevate the public’s awareness of this potential new fishery was accomplished. The Commissioner of Fish and Game was also excited and said he will direct his staff to assist in anyway possible to make this happen sooner rather than later. In the mean time permits will be available from his office to pursue squid by any commercial fisherman that wants to. I will be coordinating getting commercial fishermen equipped to fish for squid this summer and fish processors to handle the squid they catch.

U.S. Senator Tom Cotton has introduced legislation that would ban the import of seafood and aquaculture products from China. “Fishing and aquaculture is yet another industry the Chinese Communist Party is weaponizing for their own gain through blatant abuse and slave labor. This legislation will stop imports of this illicit seafood by imposing real costs on the Chinese government and the companies that aid them,” Cotton said in a statement.
